Machine learning research,
built into working systems.
I'm Robertson Bassy, a machine learning researcher focused on federated learning, and the founder of Nouvela Technology Group, a SAM.gov-registered federal contractor. I lead SBIR/STTR research proposals as principal investigator and build the software that carries the research into the field: laboratory systems, health AI, and community platforms.
About
My research background is in federated learning: training machine learning models across distributed data that can't be centralized, which is exactly the shape of the problem in healthcare, laboratories, and other regulated settings. That thread runs through everything I build: systems that respect where sensitive data lives.
As a Ph.D. student I am developing federal SBIR/STTR research proposals that pair that research with real deployment partners, including voice-first maternal health AI for low-literacy settings and ISO/IEC 17025-compliant laboratory infrastructure.
Through Nouvela Technology Group I also design and operate production web platforms for small businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations across the Southeast.

Selected work
CSCI LIMS
Multi-tenant, ISO/IEC 17025-compliant laboratory information management system for university research labs, with row-level security, chain of custody, and append-only audit logging across ten modules.
Mtoto Bebe
Voice-first maternal health AI designed for mothers in the rural US South. It is part of my Ph.D. research, developed into an STTR proposal pairing federated learning with conversational health guidance and field partners.
LABTEQ
Science-inspired apparel and merchandise brand with an e-commerce storefront with a custom product experience.
Community platforms
Production sites for nonprofits and civic organizations: a centennial fraternity chapter, a youth STEM nonprofit, and local service businesses across the Southeast.
Research interests
-
Federated learning
Training models across distributed, privacy-constrained data: communication efficiency, heterogeneity, and deployment in settings where data cannot move.
-
Health AI for underserved settings
Voice-first and low-literacy interfaces for maternal and community health, designed with the infrastructure constraints of rural deployment in mind.
-
Regulated-industry systems
Software architecture for compliance-heavy domains: ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory workflows, auditability, and multi-tenant data isolation.
